Feeding America is the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States, working to provide meals to millions of people facing food insecurity while advocating for solutions to end hunger nationwide. Students can participate to serve their local community with the issue of hunger and earn service hours for their work.
General Information
Volunteer in your local community by sorting and packing food at a food bank, distributing meals at pantries, and help with community meals. Feeding America also encourages hosting a food drive or leading a fundraiser that can help your college application by showing leadership.
Eligibility
Most food banks allow anyone 13+, but some may require 16+ for solo volunteering. No prior experience is needed and training is provided. Must wear closed toed shoes and not wear a tank top. Group volunteering is encouraged. Use this link to confirm your eligibility.
Application Process
Visit the website for Feeding America using this link, and enter your zip code to find a food bank close to you. Then sign up for a shift, orientation, or event, and some food banks allow online booking. Also, if you are under the age of 18, you must get parental permission or adult supervision.
