Idaho National Laboratory High School Internships

The INL High School Internship is a 6–8 week paid summer program where students work alongside scientists and engineers on real-world STEM projects. Interns are matched with mentors based on their interests and skills in areas such as nuclear science, cybersecurity, energy, and environmental science. The program includes orientation, hands-on research, and a final project presentation.

Eligibility and Application Information

Applicants must be 16 years or older, U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and currently enrolled as rising juniors, seniors, or recent graduates. The application requires a statement of interest, resume, unofficial transcripts, current class schedule, and two letters of recommendation. Applications for the Summer 2025 program are open until February 28, 2025, with internships beginning in mid-June.

Pay

Interns receive an hourly wage between $15.00 and $16.41, depending on the position and education level. The program is fully paid, but housing and transportation are not provided, so students must arrange their own accommodations and commute. Interns are eligible for paid holiday time off during the internship period.
