General Information

This is a 5-week residential summer research program that offers hands-on scientific work in astrophysics, biochemistry, bacterial genomics, or synthetic chemistry on real university campuses. Depending on the scientific area you pursue, you will go through different research. For example, astrophysics: measure and calculate asteroid orbits via telescope, software, and data analysis.

Eligibility

Applicants must be high school juniors (very strong sophomores may apply, but the acceptance rates are significantly lower). For specific fields, applicants must have completed specific science and math courses in school. Both domestic and international students may apply.

Application Process

This is an online application that opens in early December. This application includes personal information, transcripts, short essays, teacher recommendations, activities list, and optional test scores. Demonstrate a passion for your chosen subject. The application closes in late February.

Alumni often go on to attend top-tier universities like MIT, Stanford, and Caltech, and pursue careers in science, medicine, and technology. SSP is widely recognized by college admissions officers as a mark of exceptional academic ability, collaboration, and scientific curiosity.
