General Information

This is an 8-week in-person research program held at the Stanford School of Medicine. Students work full-time in labs under the mentorship of Stanford researchers, participate in lectures and lab safety training, and complete a final research presentation.

Eligibility

Students must be current U.S. high school juniors or seniors. Must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and attend high school in the United States. While students from across the country can apply, preference is given to those who live in the Bay Area.

Application Process

Applications open mid‑December via SlideRoom and include transcripts, a resume, essays, a $40 fee (waivable), and one teacher recommendation. The deadline is mid‑February, with a short grace period for recommendation letters. Decisions are released in early April, with no additional interview rounds.

Impact & Recognition

The program is highly prestigious, with an acceptance rate of around 3%, making it one of the most competitive biomedical research opportunities for high school students. A majority of alumni attend top universities and pursue careers in science, medicine, and engineering. Participation is a strong addition to any college application, signaling advanced research experience and a demonstrated commitment to STEM.
