General Information

This yearlong college access program supports high-achieving, low-income students from the Houston area in applying to and succeeding at selective colleges and universities. Participants receive individualized college advising, application support, financial aid guidance, and college tours. The program also offers transition support to help students adjust to college life.

Eligibility

Applicants must be rising high school juniors or seniors from the Houston area, including districts like Houston ISD, Spring Branch ISD, Spring ISD, Aldine ISD, and Klein ISD. The program primarily serves low-income and first-generation college-bound students, with a focus on those from historically underrepresented backgrounds.

Application Process

Applications typically open in late summer and require essays, transcripts, recommendation letters, and demographic information. The deadline usually falls in early fall, and decisions are announced by late fall. There are no interviews, but finalists participate in orientation and training sessions.

The EMERGE Fellowship is widely respected for empowering low-income and first-generation students to attend and graduate from selective colleges. Alumni often continue their education at top universities and pursue careers in various fields.
