General Information

This is a 3-week residential program to foster STEM learning. This program is designed to expose students to advanced scientific topics and real-world research. This program covers many topics such as molecular biology, neuroscience, electrophysiology, applied physics, and engineering design.

Eligibility

Applicants must be current high school juniors or seniors. Must have a strong academic record, and show a demonstrated interest in STEM fields like engineering, physics, neuroscience, or biology. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is preferred but changed year by year.

Application Process

This application opens in January to February in the form of an online application that contains essay questions usually about your interest in STEM, an unofficial high school transcript, and a teacher recommendation. It is recommended that the letter of recommendation comes from a STEM teacher and in your application show a high level of interest in STEM. To apply, students must email YESS with the subject line YESS Application Inquiry, and the email must include your full name, grade, and school and a brief expression of interest in STEM. The application is due in late March to early April.

Impact & Recognition

Alumni often pursue majors and careers in STEM fields, including participation in top-university research, SURF programs, and earning awards like Goldwater Scholarships. This program specifically supports students from underrepresented groups, and it nurtures their passion for science and engineering. Its competitiveness and prestige adds to students' college applications.
